A potted history.
I graduated from Central St. Martins in 1996, where following the degree show, Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran commissioned me to create the cover and artwork for ‘Medazzaland’, their ninth studio album. This led to creating their first ever website using ‘QuickTime’ panoramas to take their fans into ‘Privacy ’, Duran Duran’s recording studios in Battersea. Fans were able to record their own remix of a Duran song using DD’s instruments.
In 2000 the band commissioned me to create the artwork for their tenth studio album, ‘Pop Trash’. They also invited me on a tour of the USA to shoot a film, ‘A Pop Trash Road Movie’ - a fly-on-the-wall documentary of the guys on the road. The film is currently in post-production.
Following twelve fantastic years working with Duran Duran, I joined EMI Music to run their in-house Art Department, ‘The Red Room’. There, we worked directly with some of EMI’s most illustrious recording artists, including David Bowie, The Beatles, Brian Eno, Maria Callas and The Sex Pistols.
In 2006 I left EMI, to gather over nine years agency experience working as a Creative Director with Imagination, PublicisSapient and MRM//McCann.
I’ve operated at board level, and overseen department restructures and agency ‘reboots’, (the good, the bad and the downright ugly). I’ve helmed a 38-strong creative department, and creatively led scores of pitches with notable wins for Nespresso, Pernod-Ricard, MTV, Playboy and Tommee Tippee, (coffee, booze, music…).
Brands I’ve worked directly with as CD include Xbox, Foot Locker, Intel, Ted Baker, Asics, General Motors, and Shell - video games, sneakers, tech, fashion, cars and a largely despised fossil-fuel giant.
As a result of all this, I was part of a team (ad industry awards are rarely a solo effort) that garnered twenty-six awards including a Gold Direct Lion and a D&AD Yellow Pencil for ‘Survival Billboard’, and Cyber Gold for ‘Sneakerpedia’.
In 2016 I set up shop with ECD, Dan Douglass. We successfully ran our own ‘boutique agency’ with an annual turnover of £780k by Y2. Our clients included Nivea, Cineworld, Nike, Virgin Business, Censhare and Powerleague.
Alongside Kukusi, I run a film and TV ideas studio, with a short film called ‘Get Milk’ selected to be shown in the ‘Cannes Short Film Festival’ and the ‘Peckham and London Film Festival’. I have two feature length scripts in advanced stages of development.
